cormorant

you’re readjusting deckchairs on the titanic
‘cause every other thought you have’s constricted
through a knot in a rope
i’m hanging down below in a shipping container
the radio’s tuned to the sounds of static
my arms outstretched like the crucifixion;
or a cormorant drying its wings
choking becomes automatic
choking becomes automatic
how long did you lie there
waiting to die?
i’m terrified of fast low-flying planes
but i’d rather be a thousand miles away
passing ships in this modern death
over sunsets we saw that didn’t come out in the pictures
shutter speed is automatic
shutter speed is automatic
with my cold hands
dragging us down
with trembling hands and aching fingers
i check my rusted apparatus a final time
before descending bodily into the post-meridian tidal swell
(or another tedious analogy about sinking beneath the waves)
‘if only you’d said’
what would i have said?
nothing really comes to mind
i’m afraid
‘if only you’d said’
what would i have said?
can’t hear you through the static
i'm afraid
i'm dragging us down

destitution rd.

we’re safely tied up; all secure
and if you’re listening, you’d think i’m mad
but it’s not me; the way i see it, it’s all a cluster of absurd fears
some plastic brain factory - rotten to the core
suspended inanimation
i’m battling the elements in this room, but i’d rather unravel
draw a line under all i am unbecoming
this post-modern detachment of millpond cities and of rising seas
and dying slowly
let the muffled sounds; the violence; the tiresome sense of insincerity
influential styling - watch your stars die
pretentious pilot; engine failure; cabin fever; the walls are closing in
i walk a knife-edge; barely scratching the surface - if i go down, i’m taking you all with me! there’s always someone else to blame...

never do enough

i’ll always be your human radiator
i’ll keep you warm until i coagulate
i’ll always paint us in a flattering light
that never fades
i love you
though words fail
or never do enough
my overflowing hermitude
it’s the longest roads that always lead you home
our settled states and mutual trading values
never die
